Signs of a Mouse Infestation

Kevin Phelps • November 5, 2022

Mice can be a real problem in any home. They can contaminate food, spread disease, and cause structural damage. If you think you may have a mouse infestation, it is important to look for signs of mice activity. These are three of the most common signs of a mouse infestation. Keep an eye out for these signs so that you can take action and get rid of the mice before they cause too much damage.

Droppings

One sign that you may have a mouse infestation is finding droppings. Mouse droppings are small, black pellets that are about the size of a grain of rice. They are often found near food sources or in areas where mice have been active. If you find mouse droppings in your home, it is essential to clean them up immediately and dispose of them properly. Mice can carry diseases, and their droppings can contaminate food and surfaces. In addition, mouse droppings may also be a sign of other pests, such as rats or cockroaches. If you suspect you have a mouse infestation, contact a pest control professional for assistance.

Nesting Material

One sign that you may have a mouse infestation is finding nesting material. Mice are looking for a safe and warm place to nest, and they will often build their nests out of materials like paper or insulation. If you find these materials in your home, it's a good indication that mice are present. These materials will often be shredded into strings and strips so they can be used for building a nest, so be on the lookout for items that have been chewed or torn by another living creature.

Holes Chewed in Walls

If you've ever spotted a tiny hole in your walls, chances are you have a mouse infestation. Mice are known to chew through walls to create passageways between rooms, and these holes can be one of the first signs of an infestation. If you notice any holes, it's important to take immediate action to get rid of the mice. Otherwise, they'll continue to reproduce and will become a larger problem.  If you suspect you have mice, call a professional exterminator to get rid of them before they cause any more damage to your home.

Mice pose many threats to your home, from spreading disease to damaging important infrastructure. To stop an infestation in its tracks, you need to be on the lookout for signs. If you spot these three issues, you may be dealing with a mouse infestation.
